DIY Rustic Heart Gate

Valentines is coming up quickly (like every holiday wink) and what better holiday then to make a “lovely” gift for your kid(s) “female” teacher(s) for Valentine’s Day at School.
This “DIY Rustic Heart Gate” is so cute.
You can make one for yourself and for your child(s) teacher(s). Your child(s) teacher can enjoy it in her class or in her home as well. Plus I think its cute enough you could leave it up all year, or it would even be cute in a young girls bedroom.

What you need:

Wood heart (found at JOANN’S)
wood gate (found at JOANN’S)
“3” acrylic paint colors in your choice
“2” sponge brushes
sand paper
dark stain
rag (for staining)
hot glue gun

I started by sanding down my wood gate. Then I painted the wood gate with a mixture of Apple Barrel acrylic paint in “cameo pink” and “bright magenta”. I have to say that I love Apple Barrel’s Craft Paint! Their quick drying, water base formula is so easy for soap and water clean up. Plus their paints have a smooth application, with long lasting color convenience. Oh’ and they have a vast color palette available in a variety of bottled sizes, perfect for many surfaces. “Gloss and matte finishes to boot!”

So after I painted the gate with those two colors, I let it sit. Then I began staining the wood heart with a clean rag and dark walnut stain. Then I painted over the gate with two coats of “white blanco”. Once the gate was all dry, I took it out to my garage and sanded it some more to give it the rustic worn look. Then I added stain to the sanded areas of the gate. Lastly, I hot glued on the stained heart.

So here is My DIY Rustic Heart Gate! I think my daughters teacher is going to “heart” it! winks.

I think it turned out just as I envisioned it, plus I think its pretty darn cute too.
If you are looking or thinking of Valentine Teacher Gifts, I hope this helped you for that, or for yourself wink.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by COM today.
